LTX Scaler vs. Descript vs. OpusClip: Which Video Tool Is Actually Worth It?

October 30, 20255 min read

If you’ve ever tried to take a horizontal video (16:9) and turn it into something eye-catching for YouTube Shorts, you know—it’s not as easy as clicking “resize.”

That’s what led me to test-drive LTX Scaler for a week.

I wanted to see if this tool could save me the frustration of manually reframing every Veo3 clip I create for my @Rethinkifai channel.

And honestly? I was impressed. But not sold.

Here’s the real story.

What LTX Scaler Does (and Why I Tried It)

LTX Scaler is a web app built for repurposing and more.

You upload your video, pick a new format—say, from 16:9 (YouTube) to 9:16 (Shorts, Reels, or TikTok)—and it spits out a clean, resized version.

That is one feature: make your video fit where it needs to go without rebuilding it from scratch.

It’s part of the Lightricks ecosystem (the same people behind apps like Facetune and Videoleap), so you expect polish—and it delivers. The dashboard is clean, simple, and feels designed for creators who don’t have time to mess with complicated timelines or export settings.

My 7-Day Free Trial: What Worked (and What Didn’t)

I gave myself a week to really test it.

I ran 12 Veo3 clips through the system (you are given 12 credits and 7 days)—videos I’d already posted in horizontal format—to see how well it could adapt them for vertical Shorts.

Here’s what I noticed:

👍 What I Liked

  • It’s ridiculously simple.
Upload, choose your aspect ratio, download. No learning curve, no manual cropping, no wasted time.

  • It’s quick.
LTX Scaler didn’t just make resizing easier—it made it faster. I could convert a clip in about two minutes and move on with my day.

  • Multiple size options.
You’re not locked into one shape. 9:16, 1:1, 4:5—it covers all the major formats for every social platform.

👎 What I Didn’t Love

  • Limited creative control.
It’s a re-formatter, not an editor. No transitions, no overlays, no text—just reframing.

  • The price tag.
Here’s where I hit pause. LTX Scaler’s monthly fee is the same as Descript, and Descript does a lot more.

So, while I genuinely liked using LTX Scaler—and I think it’s excellent at what it does—I decided not to subscribe (for now).

The Comparison You Actually Need:

LTX Scaler vs. OpusClip vs. Descript: The Real-World Comparison

1. LTX Scaler

Best for: Quickly resizing and reframing existing videos.
Strengths:

  • Extremely fast and simple workflow — ideal for creators who want to adapt videos for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, or TikTok.

  • Clean interface and easy presets (16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5).

  • Includes options for dubbing, translation, and captions.

Weaknesses:

  • Limited editing capabilities — it’s not designed for adding effects, transitions, or detailed edits.

  • Occasional mis-framing that requires manual adjustment.

  • The monthly price (around $28-35) feels high compared to tools that offer broader functionality.

Bottom line: Perfect for batch repurposing, but pricey if you only need resizing occasionally.

2. OpusClip

Best for: Turning long-form videos (like podcasts, interviews, or tutorials) into short, social-ready clips.
Strengths:

  • Uses AI to automatically detect engaging moments and create clips.

  • Offers multiple aspect ratios, AI-generated B-roll, captions, and a built-in scheduler for social posting.

  • Great time-saver for high-volume creators producing lots of short-form content.

Weaknesses:

  • Free version adds watermarks and limits processing time.

  • AI clipping can be hit-or-miss — you’ll sometimes need to tweak results.

  • Starts around $15–$29 per month for full access.

Bottom line: Excellent for creators producing many Shorts or Reels each week. For casual use, the free version may be enough.

3. Descript

Best for: All-in-one video and audio editing, podcasting, and content creation.
Strengths:

  • Full editing suite — transcription, captions, multi-track editing, filler-word removal, and AI voice tools.

  • Exports in multiple formats, including vertical.

  • Great for creators who want everything (recording, editing, captions, and publishing) in one place.

Weaknesses:

  • Slightly steeper learning curve than LTX Scaler.

  • Requires more setup time for simple resizing tasks.

  • Paid plans range from about $12 to $30 per month depending on features.

Bottom line: The best choice if you want one subscription to handle everything from editing to exporting.

My Recommendation

If you only need to resize a few videos per week, LTX Scaler is simple and effective.
If you’re clipping long-form videos into dozens of Shorts, OpusClip will save you serious time.
If you want one powerhouse app to edit, caption, and repurpose all your content, Descript is the smartest investment.

My Verdict

LTX Scaler is a good tool in a narrow lane.

It helps you resize and reframe videos for social media formats without losing your mind—or your weekend.

But for entrepreneurs and creators juggling multiple tasks, it may not justify the extra monthly fee unless you’re repurposing content daily at scale.

So yes—I liked it. I might use it again. But I've decided to try Descript for now.

Final Thoughts

If you’re experimenting with video repurposing, try LTX Scaler’s free trial—it’s clean, quick, and surprisingly powerful for what it offers.

But remember, tools are only part of the equation.

Strategy is what drives growth.

And if you want to learn how to build your own traffic engine using short-form video, I highly recommend the Invisible Traffic System. (aff link)

It’s the same system I used to get nearly 500 views in less than two hours on my very first Shorts video—and it’s built for entrepreneurs like us who want real results without spending all day online.
