3 Simple Ways to Help Your Kids Hear God's Voice
Does God still speak to us today, Momma? Yes, He does. Maybe not audibly, but He does speak.
But let’s be honest—it’s hard enough for us to slow down and listen, let alone teach our kids how to do it. The world is noisy. Screens, schedules, and distractions pull at their attention (and ours!). But here’s the truth:
God is always speaking. We just need to teach our kids how to recognize His voice.
If we don’t show them how to tune into God’s whispers, the world will shout over them. And we don’t want that.
3 Simple Ways to Help Your Kids Hear God’s Voice
1. Talk About How God Speaks
Sometimes, we make this too complicated. Kids don’t need a theology lesson—they need real-life examples. Tell them stories of how you’ve heard God. Maybe it was a time you felt a nudge to call a friend, or a moment when a Bible verse hit you at just the right time.
Then ask, “Has that ever happened to you?” You might be surprised at what they share!
💡 Try this: Next time your child faces a decision, ask: “Let’s pause and ask God what He thinks.” Teach them to expect God to answer in some way—through His Word, through a feeling of peace, or even through another person.
2. Show Them How to Listen
Most of us are really good at talking to God, but not so great at listening. 🙋♀️ (Guilty!) But kids learn by watching us. If they see us rush through prayers without pausing to hear from Him, they’ll do the same.
💡 Try this: Before bed, say: “Let’s take 30 seconds and just be quiet. If God brings anything to your mind—something to thank Him for, something to do for someone, a Bible verse—share it with me.”
God loves to speak when we slow down. Let’s teach our kids to expect Him to show up in the quiet.
3. Create a “God Speaks” Journal
If we don’t write things down, we forget. A simple notebook or a section in their Bible journal can be a space where your child writes down things they believe God is speaking to them.
💡 Try this: Ask them: “What do you think God is teaching you right now?” Then have them jot it down. When they look back later, they’ll see a pattern of God’s faithfulness—and that’s powerful.
Bible Verse of the Week:
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." – John 10:27
God isn’t distant. He’s a loving Shepherd who wants to be heard. Let’s help our kids become good listeners.
